The new Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis

The Congregation for the Clergy released Il dono della vocazione presbiterale: Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis on 8 Dec 2016. Just a few random points picked up from a cursory reading.

The phase of philosophical studies is referred to as "la tappa discepolare," while that of theological studies as "la tappa configuratrice" - following the distinction between the sequela Christi and the configuration to Christ that perhaps people like Cencini make: not enough to follow Christ; the vocation is to become Christ.

There is a note on vocations coming from indigenous peoples, as also one on "adult" vocations. The latter talks about these late vocations as coming a personality structure that is quite settled already, the need for a good discernment, and recommends that an age limit be set.

Another and very interesting note on vocations from migrants - very relevant also to us.

In ch. 4, "formazione permanente" seems to be clearly distinguished from "formazione iniziale" as a distinct phase that begins after the latter. But in a later chapter - perhaps 7 - the distinction is more fluid.

Among the "means of formation" is not only personal accompaniment but also communitarian accompaniment (see ch. 3).

Ch. 3 also has an insistence on formation to interiority and to communion. Formation to interiority would be what the FSDB calls "personalization": not enough to have external conformity - compliance - to rules; formation must touch the heart.

There is also, in ch. 6 on the agents of formation, a note on the role of consecrated people and laity in formation.

And one on the "formazione permanente" of all the agents of formation (ch. 6 i).
